In our world today, globalization and improvements in technology have led to an increase in the rate at which people desire and make use of different means to leave their base to other places in search of greener pastures. The International Migrants Day is marked each year with a focus on ensuring the protection of the human rights of migrants and to also help them in getting the better life they are in search of.
Migrants across the globe encounter a lot of challenges while trying to make their way out of their original base to another location. These sets of people are most vulnerable to violence especially at the border of their chosen destinations; some of them are exposed to unfavourable weather conditions, ill health, hunger, lack of shelter, lack of social security and eventually, death.
The International Migrants Day 2019 is tagged “We together”, the day is to encourage a joint effort of all societies and nations in helping migrants get better lives and to also help them in building new communities all over the world. Migration helps both countries where the people are coming from and where they are headed to develop economically and socially.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre on this International Migrants Day challenges all Governments and people to unite and support the United Nations in propelling collaborations that will assist in overcoming the adversities of the migrants and will help them to get better lives. We strongly uphold that this corporation will not only help migrants but will, in turn, bring peace to our nations.
