Africa has been generally earmarked as the new destination for the world with a great potential for rapid development in the next decade.
The media is and remains a veritable tool for all of the aspirations and dreams of Africa. Just the media has been critical to exposing the underbelly and vulnerabilities of the continent, it has also to its place in driving attention to new measures that can help in the development of the different sectors of affairs on the continent.
The strife for peace across nations that belong to the African Continent has lasted many years, many lives have been lost to incessant and consistent battles that have raged the continent due to wrong communication. The western media has feasted on this and dragged Africa in the mud for too long. Governments in the West have used powerful narratives and wide reach to perpetuate their selfish political and sociology-economic intentions to the detriment of the continent for far too long. It is time for the African Media through its various channels in print, electronic and the new media to rise to the challenges of a new narrative for Africa; of progress; of great potentials; and of our very rich heritage. The media is an effective tool for the proper communication of this message across all borders.
Media4Peace Africa is an initiative of PEACrEc in Security Communications aimed at spreading a new narrative for peace on the continent. This narrative is motivated and founded in the conviction that there can be no hope of progress of any form in the absence of peace. It is a narrative that expresses the need for full concentration on the power of media to spread the message of peace. This is a call for media content that is relevant to building peaceful societies across Africa.
Media contents and accompanying narratives should now focus on being used to build dialogue for peaceful coexistence among all religious, ethnic, tribal, political and social groups and nations on the African continent.
