International Day Against Nuclear Tests is a day to remind us of the need to put an end to the devastating effects of all forms of nuclear tests
AUGUST 29: International Day Against Nuclear Tests
The United Nations General Assembly came to the resolution of the International Day Against Nuclear Tests so as to put an end to the devastating effects, all forms of nuclear tests have brought to human existence since it began on the 16th of July 1945.
The 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly chose the 29th of August every year as the International Day Against Nuclear Tests with the purpose of educating and informing people about the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions and the need for every form of such to come to an end in our world.
Nuclear weapon testing has devastating and destructive effects on our living and existence as it has been experienced since the first test. Nuclear weapon testing causes radioactive pollution to the atmosphere, the aquatic environment as well as the underground environment.
The shock wave produced by the air blast from nuclear explosions can cause serious harm to the human body, for example, it affects the eardrum which can become ruptured, the explosion can affect the skin causing burns, it can also lead to other forms of casualties.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre strongly believes that the total elimination of nuclear testing will make our world a healthier and more peaceful environment to live. We are in absolute agreement with the United Nations that all Nations should support the total disarmament and elimination of Nuclear weapons so that we can secure our future together.
