12th September: International Day for South-South Cooperation
The International Day for South-South Cooperation celebrated every 12th of September is a day to remember the harmony among people and nations of the South. This solidarity has brought about collective self-reliance, national well-being and the achievements of developmental goals agreed upon internationally.
The South-South alliance has been beneficial to the countries involved especially developing countries as it has brought about sharing of knowledge, skills, resources and expertise to meet the development goals through their joint efforts. South-South Cooperation involves two or more developing countries which can take place on a bilateral, regional, intraregional or interregional basis.
South-South cooperation is done through a wide structure of collaboration among Nations located in the South such as countries in Africa, Developing Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East in the political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and technical sphere.
The purpose of the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation is to commemorate the developments that have been achieved in recent years by regions and countries in the south as regards economic, social, and political aspects. South-South initiatives were carried out by provisions from donor countries through funding, management, training and other forms of support.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) celebrates with the United Nations on this International Day for South-South Cooperation, we believe strongly that this alliance will help the whole world be at peace and will further strengthen the capacity of developing countries.
