June 14th is a day set apart as The World Blood Donor Day for the appreciation of everyone who has given out blood to save the lives of other people all over the world.

World Health Organization created this day to appreciate those who have in time past given their blood voluntarily to other persons and to also inform people that there is a need to donate blood voluntarily and regularly as this will help other people get affordable and quality blood.

The benefits of blood donation are not just for the person who receives the blood but there are numerous benefits for the person who is the donor. These benefits include:

*Burning of calories that put the health at risk

*Reduces one’s risk of heart-related diseases

*Reduces Cholesterol in the body

*Blood donation removes excess iron from the body

*Blood donation gives you the joy of saving another person’s life.

On this World Blood Donor Day, Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) joins the World Health Organization (WHO) to create awareness for a regular donation of quality blood and blood products for better health across the world.
