1ST JUNE: GLOBAL DAY OF PARENTS

The 1st of June is a day set apart by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to celebrate and honour all parents for their efforts in raising children and families all over the world.

The Global Day of Parents recognizes the importance of parents in building a society that is suitable for living. On this day, there is an awareness that parents deserve to be honoured for giving birth to children and also doing all they can to meet their needs.

The work of parents in the different continents of the world cannot be underestimated; they provide for their children shelter, clothing, food, education, healthcare, counsel, protection amongst many others.

Parents are family builders and these families are the ones that make up a society that becomes a town, a state, a country and the world at large. UN General Assembly in its resolution recognizes the important role of the family.

Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) on this day celebrates parents all over the world and appreciates their efforts in building stronger families that make the world a better place.
