5TH OCTOBER: WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
Teachers are important professionals in the society because they play significant roles in raising other professionals in businesses and careers. The role of teachers in our societies cannot be; it is in view of this, that the World Teachers Day was established to be celebrated every 5th of October.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization came up with a recommendation in the year 1966 and this gave birth to the commemoration of the World Teachers Day. The recommendation focuses on the status of teachers setting a standard for the right and responsibilities of teachers, it also approved the need for their preliminary preparation, further education, employment and teaching and learning conditions.
The theme for the year 2019 World Teachers Day is “Young Teachers, The future of the Profession.” This year’s world teachers’ day is to celebrate the noble profession of teaching all over the world; the day will help to look into the achievements of teachers. The need to attract and retain intelligent young minds and talents into the teaching profession is the highlight of this year’s celebration.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre celebrates Teachers worldwide on this World Teachers’ Day. We appreciate their role in raising other professionals that is further improving the world. In line with the theme for this year, we encourage leaders and stakeholders to do the needful in attracting intelligent young minds into the teaching profession as they will play important roles in passing across the message of peace.
