16th September: International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

The Ozone layer has been of beneficial purpose to human existence as it acts as a filter to rescue people from the hazardous ultraviolet rays from sunlight. The International Day for the preservation of the Ozone layer every 16th of September is a day set apart to encourage the further protection of the Ozone layer.

The Ozone Layer is a delicate shield of gas protecting the earth from harmful and injurious rays of the sun. This duty of the Ozone layer has been preserving the lives of humans on the planet earth. The sun produces Ultraviolet Radiation which can cause skin damage to humans.

The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is a day created to increase the awareness against the use of ozone-depleting substances that affect the Ozone layer negatively thereby causing harm to humans.

The theme for this year’s International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is ‘32 Years and Healing’; this is to celebrate the cooperation internationally in the protection of the Ozone layer which in turn has helped in preserving the health of humans over the past three decades.

Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre uses the opportunity of this International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer to encourage further protection of the ozone layer by the continued avoidance of ozone-depleting chemicals in our environments because a healthy planet makes a peaceful society.
