3RD JUNE: WORLD BICYCLE DAY

World Bicycle Day celebrated annually on the 3rd of June is a day selected by the United Nations to encourage the use of bicycles for the mobility of people all over the world.

World Bicycle Day reminds the world about the benefits of making use of bicycles as a means of transportation and for sporting amongst other benefits which include improving health.

Cycling can help prevent several diseases as it has been discovered through research that the use of bicycles can prevent stroke, obesity, heart diseases, diabetes, some types of cancers and death generally.

On this Day, it is also important to know that the use of bicycles helps to protect people from Environmental pollution as it is safer, unlike vehicles and motorcycles which emit dangerous substances that are threatening to the climate and in turn endanger the lives of people.

The use of bicycles are safer and more affordable than other means of transportation; it is also reliable and less prone to accidents. It fosters easy access to education, health care, and social engagement.

Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) joins the UN on this World Bicycle Day to promote awareness for stakeholders to encourage the use of bicycles in countries to strengthen education for children and young people, for sustainable development, to promote health and prevent diseases and for better social interaction.
