JUNE 27TH: Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day
The 27th of June is a day set apart to appreciate the efforts of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in building and contributing greatly to the economies of nations all over the world.
The United Nations General Assembly chose June 27th as the day for the recognition and appreciation of MSMEs for their efforts in building sustainable economies all over the world by providing employment for a larger percentage of the population of most countries.
According to a research carried out by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), MSMEs provide about 60-70% of employment for the vulnerable groups of workforce like women, youths and the poor in developing countries. This makes MSMEs the contributor of about 50% GDP to economies all over the world.
The purpose of the Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day is to create public awareness about the importance of MSMEs in building sustainable development and in poverty alleviation. MSME Day 2019 has been given the theme: Big money for Small Business which points out the need for financial support for smaller and medium-sized businesses.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) is convinced that properly targeted and focused action in this regard will contribute immensely to reduce the tensions and backlashes of unemployment and economically disadvantaged persons. PEACrEc, therefore, joins the United Nations to call on Stakeholders, Civil societies, Non-Governmental Organizations, Governmental organizations and Individuals to invest greatly in MSMEs so as to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria and across the world.
