The Kaduna State Chapter of the Military, Police and Paramilitary Public Relations Officers Forum (MILPOPPROF) was successfully inaugurated on the 13th July, 2017. The Forum, a brainchild of Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) was conceived to play an interventionist role in the wake of Nigeria’s contemporary security challenges.
AIMS and OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of the forum:
The massively attended event was graced by eminent personalities and critical Stakeholders in the State, among which were the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Officials in the State.
The Chairman NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, Muhammed EL-Nafaty delivered the Inaugural Address entitled “Synergizing to Tackle Violent Security Threats in Nigeria”. He appreciated the sacrifices of our security forces and challenged all security enforcement operatives and all Stakeholders to rally together to assist the State in resolving its myriads of security problems. He further advised the PROs to make more use of the Modern Means of Communications, adding that "connectedness through networking especially with use of the social media and other forms of communication technology synergizing is the best approach”.
The Ag. Registrar Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Dr Ben Ahiante during his speech assured the highly elected image managers that the Institute holds this laudable Forum (MILPOPPROF) in high regards and must assist it to succeed in its bid to entrench and revitalize the primordial espirit-de-corps which the services hitherto are known for, all for the good of Nigeria. He advised all PROs to as a matter of necessity to identify with the only PR regulatory body in Nigeria and professionalize in line with Federal Government policy.
The Commissioner of Police Mr Agyole Abeh through his representative ACP Muhammed Sanusi commended the initiative behind the formation of the Forum and solicited the cooperation of all stakeholders in curbing the incessant acts of criminality in the State. “When I was requested to host this kind of Forum, I quickly accepted without any form of hesitation knowing the far reaching impact it will certainly have in fighting crime here in Kaduna and by extension everywhere in Nigeria. Honestly speaking, this Forum deserves our full support”, he charged.
In his own remarks, the visiting special guest of honour, and the Commandant in charge of the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI), Brigadier General JA Agim PhD, Fnipr, advised the PROs to use the Forum as rallying point to promote cordial relations and enhancement of a more robust interaction among themselves which are necessary ingredients for tackling violent security threats in Nigeria and hence strengthening national security. He concluded that “Information and communication tools should be well utilized advantageously by trained professionals as the world becomes a global village in order to generate evidence based data that would help in addressing societal problems”.
The founding Chief Facilitator, MILPOPPROF, Col. Kingsley Umoh, charged the PROs not to see themselves as members of an association but as Facilitators on a non-profit platform to collaborate and make worthy contributions for the enthronement of peace, stable polity and orderly society where rule of law reigns supreme. “More than ever before, our nation yearns for patriotic and self-sacrificing leaders who can drive the great visions of its founding fathers to its desired destination. And in this regard, our individual security agencies must stand out and heed this call given the special training and orientations we have imbibed”, quipped by Col. Umoh.
The High point of the official launch was the election and inauguration of EXCO to pilot the very noble objective of the Forum in the State.
The newly elected Facilitators accepted their elections and offices, promising to use MILPOPPROF as platform to better relationship and rapport which will assist them to synergize and tackle the contemporary challenges in the State and its environs. All the PROs expressed their profound appreciation to the Peace and Conflict Resolution Resource Centre (PEACrEc) for finding Kaduna State most deserving of this Forum at this point in history after Lagos, describing it as the last concord of peace which must be jealously cherished.
